Ivan Basso, defending champion of the Giro d'Italia. and runner-up to Lance Armstrong in the 2006 Tour de France. Just yesterday he resigned from the Discovery Channel team following renewed allegations of doping. Sigh. He was the odds-on favorite to repeat at the Giro and was going to lead Discovery at the TdF.

OK, so Ivan admitted to doping and is likely to serve a suspension of at least two years. Nice.
