I have to agree with the spirit of this post. If we, in this glorious country of ours, have to create a special day to encourage our kids to walk to school, there's something seriously wrong.

Check this out.

Some fishing pics from our recent trip to Idaho. First, the girl:

Next, the boy:

As you can see, they both got fish. Dad, well, not so much.

Discovery on the front bringing down the gap. That's Tommy Danielson, Ivan Basso, and George Hincapie (riding with what he later found out was a broken wrist from a crash earlier in the day) doing the work. It paid off; they closed the gap, and Levi Leipheimer finished safely in the pack to retain the leader's jersey.

JJ Haedo of Team CSC edging out Paulo Bettini at the line in Santa Clarita.

That arm in the right of the screen is CSC team director Bjarne Riis, who was the 1996 Tour de France champion. He's not a very nice fellow, actually. He was walking by and when I stuck out my hand to wish him luck he looked at me like I had three heads. I guess we all have our reasons not to be polite.

Paulo Bettini, world and olympic road race champion, sporting the rainbow stripes and the gold trim on his helmet. One thing I love about cycling are the jersey and equipment color traditions. Paolo's got a reputation as being the nicest guy in the peloton, too. All 120 lbs. of him.

The Mavic neutral-support vehicle with the snazzy deep-dish carbon wheels. MMM, tasty!

Ivan Basso, defending champion of the Giro d'Italia. and runner-up to Lance Armstrong in the 2006 Tour de France. Just yesterday he resigned from the Discovery Channel team following renewed allegations of doping. Sigh. He was the odds-on favorite to repeat at the Giro and was going to lead Discovery at the TdF.

George Hincapie coming off of the sign-in stage at the Santa Barbara ToC start. He would later in this stage break his wrist and have to miss the remainder of the race. He'd also go on to miss the rest of the spring classics in Europe.

Floyd Landis signing autographs at the Santa Barbara to Santa Clarita stage of the 2007 Tour of California. For the record, I happen to think Floyd's innocent. You can check out his defense here.
